Dr. Jason Epps serves as the founding/lead pastor of The Rising, which held its first public worship service in 2007. He lives with his wife, Roanne, and 3 kids, Micah, (2008), Mandy (2010), Sammy (2012) in Salt Lake City – and they have kiddo #4 on the way (October 2014)!. Outside of church, Jason spends most of his time riding his Harley, playing golf and guitar, reading, and falling his way down various mountains (i.e. snowboarding). The Epps family loves Utah because 1) it’s a great place to raise a family, 2) it has four beautiful seasons, and 3) it now has many In-n-Out Burgers. The only way Utah could improve its standing with the Epps family is if it brought multiple Waffle House restaurants to the state
Jason has attended Emory University (Atlanta, Georgia), Lee University (Cleveland, TN), Golden Gate Seminary (San Francisco, CA), Midwestern Seminary (Kansas City, MO), the University of Utah (Salt Lake City, UT), and Biola University (Los Angeles, CA) having earned degrees in pastoral ministry, theology, church planting, philosophy, and Christian apologetics. Jason completed his doctorate in 2007.
Licensed into Christian ministry in 1999, Jason maintains ordination with the Christian & Missionary Alliance, for whom he serves as Utah Regional Coordinator. He has worked in various roles including that of youth pastor (GA), college pastor (TN), missionary (Cairo, Egypt), lead pastor (CA), and campus pastor/theology instructor (UT). Up until his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army Reserve this month, Jason was a commissioned officer, serving as Brigade Chaplain with the 96th Sustainment Brigade (Ft. Douglas, UT). In addition to his full time role at The Rising, Jason teaches theology & biblical studies as an adjunct professor of religion at Liberty University. He speaks nationally on topics of culture, ministry, and theology, and blogs regularly at www.jasonepps.com
